Watauga Point Recreation Area

The Recreation Area is part of the Cherokee National Forest and offers a boat ramp, fishing, hiking nature trails, Watauga Lakefront access, natural wildlife viewing, restrooms, showers and swimming. Parking is available and pets are allowed on leashes. According to www.TourElizabethton.com: "Watauga Point Trail - This foot trail contours above the shoreline of Watauga Lake, loops and returns to parking area. This trail offers some great views of Watauga Lake. Trail surface is gravel. Trail runs .41 miles." |
On the Fourth of July the boats in the Watauga Lake Boat Parade go by the beach at the Watauga Point Recreation Area giving locals and visitors a chance to see the large house boats from local marinas festively decorated for the day. After the parade there are fireworks shows around the lake, including one at the nearby Lakeshore Resort and Marina (see photo below). |
