The Fourth Annual Watauga Lake Triathlon was held on Saturday September 13, nearly a month earlier than the 2007 event. After 2 years of drought, the lake water level was lower than average but about the same as last year. Because of the earlier date, the water temperature was warmer this year.

The early fog held down the air temperature for the swim and the beginning of the bike event but the morning quickly warmed. Event founder and co-ordinator Scott Vandiver and his volunteers ran another great event. Check back to their website (find link at the end of this article) to see the final results.

Competitors began the swim near the church as the fog lifted from the Blue Ridge mountains. Swimmers left the shore in age and gender groups followed by those participating in teams.
