Sycamore Shoals and the re-built Fort Watauga were the perfect adventure for this 3-year old and 1--year old. Here, they waded at the same location in the Watauga River where the Overmountain Men crossed in 1780 to meet at Sycamore Shoals and march to Kings Mountain.

Meanwhile . . back at the cabin and dock, other family members relaxed on their cabin's deck and prepared for a boat outing down on the dock.

The water in Watauga Lake is warm enough in the summer to swim and cool enough to refresh. Boating traffic is usually light on the lake making water activities safe for all.

While one boy encountered a curious corn-eating squirrel at Sycamore Shoals Park, he and his brother also enjoyed a return to "civilization" at the McDonalds restaurant in Elizabethton.
