Local marinas offer boat rentals and there are several sites for public lake and boat access. Unlike many Tennessee lakes, Watauga Lake is not crowded with boat traffic, even on holiday weekends. It is truly a special boating and vacation destination.

Speedboats towing rafts, pontoon boats, sailboats, large house boats and fishing boats share this lake with courtesy and neighborly familiarity. Lake residents range from families descended from citizens of the region before the formation of the lake to second- and third-home owners from Florida and other areas. Most share a low-key and personal appreciation of this special place.Boating on Watauga Lake Tennessee

There are no hotels on Watauga Lake but many special rental houses and cabins. (See below for links to local rentals and local marinas.) Local towns such as Boone, North Carolina and Elizabethton, Tennessee offer diversions for a long stay but most visitors need no diversion from what many consider to be the most beautiful TVA lake in Tennessee.
