From the beginning George Vanderbilt designed Biltmore Village as a source of income through rents on commercial and residential properties. He purchased the community of Best, NC and changed its name to Biltmore NC.

The center of the village was to be the All Soul's church also designed by Richard Morris Hunt. Like the other buildings in the village they chose a Tudor architectural style. The village was laid out in a fan shape with the church at its point. George and Edith's daughter Cornelia was married there (her first of three marriages) in a large ceremony.

Today it has been designated a cathedral. According to their website (see link below):

"On January 1, 1995, All Souls became the first Cathedral for The Diocese of Western North Carolina. A Cathedral is a parish in which the Bishop, the chief pastor and leader of a diocese, has their seat, ‘cathedra’ in Latin. As a Cathedral, All Souls serves as a gathering place for the diocese, a house of prayer for all persons and a symbol for God’s desire to gather all persons around one table."

Along with the All Soul's Cathedral, the depot and some original cottages still remain in the village.

Today the village is filled with restaurants, galleries and shops. In August local galleries New Morning Gallery and Bellagio sponsor the Village Art and Craft Fair at the All Soul's Cathedral. The fair includes 125 artists and offers a wide variety of crafts for sale.
