Damascus Virginia is informally known as Trail Town USA. It is surrounded by the Appalachian Trail, the Virginia Creeper Trail, the Trans-America National Bicycle Trail, the Iron Mountain Trail, the Daniel Boone Trail, the Crooked Road Musical Heritage Trail, Virginia's Birding and Wildlife Trail, and lies within a short distance of many other trails. Each year in June, the town celebrates these trails and their visitors and those who maintain and hike the trails with the Appalachian Trail Days Festival. The granddaddy of trails in the eastern U.S. is the Appalachian Trail. It runs from Georgia to Maine. Damascus is at around the mid-point of the trail. A sidewalk in Damascus is actually part of the Appalachian Trail.

The Trail Days Festival is held in mid-May. For more information click here for the Trail Days website.
